Install Siberian CMS on Debian / Ubuntu with Nginx and PHP-FPM

What is Siberian CMS?

Siberian is an open-source CMS for building mobile applications for iOS and Android. It is usable without technical knowledge and has been adopted by thousands of companies worldwide.

It is interesting, so I gave a shot to install on local environment.

Preparations

  • Nginx was installed
  • Maria db / MySQL was installed
  • PHP-FPM and some modules were installed

You might also need to increase max_execution_time value on your php-fpm configuration. I gave 300 seconds for this value
  • Setup a virtual host for Nginx. You can follow the instruction here
  • Create a database that’s going to be used by Siberian CMS

Done. Continue to the next step.

Install

First, get the free version of Siberian CMS from siberiancms.com. The installer will be sent to your email address provided. It contains a download link of the installer. The installer is a php file named “index.php” compressed as zip.

Extract zip file and place “index.php” to the virtual host you prepared. Then access your virtual host from web browser. It will ask you to download Siberian CMS, please be patient.

To install, just follow the instructions, it’s easy.

You’ll be redirected to the login page 🙂

  1. What do you do if you get a 504 error when it’s downloading the CMS?

edit: And please remove the overlay link it’s frickin annoying (I’ve had to click 3 times just to type this message)

edit 2: make that 4 times

    1. It needs several times when downloading the CMS.
You can increase `max_execution_time` value of php (file php.ini)
If you’re using Nginx, also increase `fastcgi_read_timeout` on server configuration.

There are many tutorials you can search on Internet to do that.
      Hope, it helps.
      Thanks.
